According to His Purpose (Part 1)

What does it mean for salvation to be entirely about God and not about us? That question sits at the heart of Romans 9, a passage that many skip over precisely because it challenges our most deeply held assumptions about fairness, free will, and how God works in the world. We are taken on a journey from the triumphant close of Romans 8, where nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God, straight into a sobering meditation on divine sovereignty and election. The connection is not accidental. The same God whose love is unbreakable is the God whose purpose cannot be thwarted. We see this illustrated through the lives of Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, and Esau, where God's choices were made not on the basis of human merit, moral track record, or lineage, but purely according to His own eternal purpose. The spiritual lesson here is both humbling and liberating: our standing before God is not something we engineered or earned. It rests entirely on Him. For those of us who have grown up in a culture that prizes self-determination, this requires a genuine shift in perspective, one that moves us from seeing salvation as something centered on us to recognizing it as a display of God's glory and grace.
