Union With Christ: Baptism and The Lord's Supper
What does it truly mean to be baptized into Christ? This message takes us deep into Romans 6:3-4, where Paul asks a question that cuts to the heart of Christian identity: do we not know what happened to us when we were placed into union with Christ? The answer reshapes everything. Using the vivid imagery of a cucumber submerged in vinegar until it becomes a pickle, and fabric dipped into dye until its color is permanently changed, we are shown that baptism into Christ is not a surface-level event. It is a radical, irreversible transformation of who we are and where we are located. We are no longer in Adam, helpless and enslaved to sin. We are in Christ, buried with Him, raised with Him, and forever identified with His death and resurrection. This is not the work of water or ritual, but the work of the Holy Spirit, who unites us to Christ so completely that His story becomes our story. The question that lingers for each of us is this: has our location truly changed? And if it has, are we living like people who have been fundamentally and permanently transformed?
